A game of two halves
By Stuart Morgan
Callum Saunders and Dan Perry put Heath ahead at the break but a spirited second half from the hosts saw the game end all even
It was another good pre-season work out for Heath as they faced one of the most lethal SCFL striker over the past few years.
Karly Akehurst saw a good effort go narrowly over the bar and like wise Lee Robinson saw his effort just clear the bar at the other end after a fast break.
With just over 20 minutes played Callum Saunders was brought down in the Newhaven box, he picked himself up but saw his spot kick saved but the loose ball fell in his path and he stabbed Heath into a 1-0 lead.
Heath enjoyed good spells of possession in the opening half and restricted the hosts to efforts from distance that Josh Heyburn dealt with.
The Heath lead was doubled just after the half hour with a fine flowing move starting with Karly Akehurst winning and running with the ball before releasing Naim Rouane who found Dan Perry who finished coolly as Jake Buss dived at his feet.
Karly Akehurst towards the back of the half saw an effort held from distance and Niam Rouane went close but couldn't keep the ball down.
As the half closed Heath had to clear off the line to prevent Newhaven from pulling one back and a follow up effort cleared the bar.
Heath made 6 half time substitutions which took some readjusting but started the half well with Max Miller hitting the bar with a header from 18 yards.
Patrick Akwasi then went close flashing a strike just wide.
Newhaven started to get more of a hold on the game and saw an effort hit the side netting, Newhaven got in again minutes later and this time Josh Heyburn needed to be alert and make the save at the feet of the Newhaven striker before the follow up was again put into the side netting.
The pressure did finally tell however as Josh Heyburn's save at full length could do nothing to stop a follow up tap in on 80 minutes.
With 85 played the hosts saw a strong penalty shout waved away and just a corner given but Josh Heyburn was unable to hold the in-swinging ball in and Newhaven bundled home an equaliser.
Newhaven could have nicked it at the death but a fine stop at point blank range kept the scores tied.
