Heath into Semi Final of RUR Cup
By Stuart Morgan
Heath will face RUR Cup holders Chichester City in the Semi Final after beating Hassocks 3-0 at the Beacon
It was a match that was far from regulation as a determined Hassocks side made Heath work hard for the win and a place in the Semi final in the Mid Sussex derby.
The first half was low on action in which Heath dominated possession but Hassocks got men behind the ball and were always lively on the break.
Heath gave debuts to keeper Mark Fox with Josh Heyburn nursing a knock picked up on Saturday and Cameron Tutt on Loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. Unfortunately for Heath they lost Callum Saunders late in the first half after picking up an injury but his replacement Alex Laing went closest to opening the scoring just before the break as his in-swinging corner needed tipping over the bar.
The second half saw Heath's quality improve as the hard working Hassocks side began to tire, Melford Simpson still on the road to recovery replaced Andrew Dalhouse at half time and immediately began to show his power and presence against the Hassocks back line.
The break through finally came on 68 minutes, Max Miller found Karly Akehurt in the box but his certain goal was brilliantly defended and the last ditch block diverted the ball onto the bar then two half clearances saw the ball drop on the edge of the box and Byron Napper made no mistake volleying into the bottom corner for his second Heath goal.
Heath extended their lead 10 minutes later and this time it was Melford Simpson who was picked out by Max Miller as the big man chested the ball down and then poked the ball past the Hassocks keeper.
Hassocks saw a really good chance go begging as the ball flashed across the goal and just out of reach of the arriving striker.
With 86 minutes gone it was game over as Melford Simpson did brilliantly on the edge of the box beating two defenders before returning the earlier favour and squaring the ball to Max Miller for a welcomed tap in from inside the 6 yard box.
Hassocks should have got a consolation late on as Jordan Badger met a free kick into the Heath box but his header didn't test Mark Fox as it cleared the crossbar.
Full Time Hassocks 0-3 Heath
Man of the Match - Cameron Tutt - the full back settled in straight away and looked composed on the ball and dangerous going forwards.
Heath will now face Chichester City in the Semi Final to be played in 2019 after they beat Eastbourne Utd 3-2 at The Oval
