Heath into Final of RUR Cup
By Stuart Morgan
Heath overcame a decent Chichester side to book their place in the final of the RUR Cup
Heath knocked out current RUR cup holders Chichester with a workman like performance on a cold night at Hanbury.
The visitors are riding high at the top of the SCFL and showed quality throughout as Heath were tested over the 90 minutes.
The first half saw little goal mouth action although it was Chi who had the first attempt on target with Josh Heyburn getting down well to hold on well to a low drive from a free kick.
Against the balance of play Heath opened the scoring when Melford Simpson flicked the ball on and Alex Laing got in front of his marker and toe poked the ball past the on coming keeper.
Heath then doubled their lead in the 35th minute as Melford Simpson retrieved a over hit corner and put the ball into the box with Karly Akehurst acrobatically turning the ball in.
Half Time Heath 2-0 Chichester City
Both sides looked to up the anti in the second half with Alex Laing firing wide early on and then at the other end some good interplay released the Chi front man but he couldn't keep his effort down.
Byron Napper nearly added to his goal tally on the hour as from 40 yards spotted the keeper off his line and but for some fast feet just preventing the ball crossing the line from under the bar.
Chances came at both ends with Chi just firing wide and Melford Simpson having a header easily saved.
The Heath back line of Sean Roddy, Luke Robinson, Nathan Cooper and Josh Spinks continued to hold firm and deal what Chi threw at them.
With 6 minutes remaining Heath were reduced to 10 men as Callum Saunders slid for a ball on the line following an indirect free kick and caught the man, yellow seemed right but red somewhat harsh.
Heath saw out the remaining minutes and 6 added on to book their place in the final to be hosted at Lancing on 1st May
