Heath Start Life In The Bostik League With Defeat To VCD Athletic
By Peter Chapman
A narrow loss, but a big improvement in performance.
Haywards Heath Town tasted defeat at Hanbury Stadium for the second week in a row as they made their bow in the Bostik League Division One South East.
The Blues were forced into two changes to their starting line-up with Max Miller and Dan Perry coming in for the injured Callum Saunders and Melford Simpson.
After an even start, VCD took the lead in the 34th minute as Leon Lalor-Dell scored low into the bottom left corner from 20 yards.
Kane Louis hit the post in the second half for Heath and captain Naz Rouane’s fiercely struck shot with the outside of his left boot went mere inches wide as the Blues failed to find an equaliser.
VCD looked like they had another goal in them with a number of creative players in attack, but they couldn't make their possession in the final third count.
The visitors just about deserved their victory by the solitary goal, but Blues' manager Shaun Saunders can take heart from a much improved performance from his charges as Heath look to acclimatize to life in Step 4.
