Heath Left Frustrated as Guernsey take all the points
By Stuart Morgan
Guernsey pulled off the league double as Heath again struggled at home
Heath fresh from their quarter final win on Tuesday looked to take it into their league match today but despite plenty of chances on goal a combination of wayward finishing, inspired goalkeeping and the woodwork meant they left Hanbury empty handed once again.
Heath started very brightly and with the game just 2 minutes old Melford Simpson found space but his header was straight at keeper Callum Stanton as this sparked the shot stoppers day.
Kaly Akehurst and Alex Laing couldn't beat Stanton from distance before Guernsey's first effort after 9 minutes that was comfortably held by Josh Heyburn.
Heath continued to ask questions but Stanton had all the answers as he saved from Simpson and watched Akehurst's effort clear the bar, Luke Robinson did brilliantly on 19 minutes beating 3 Guernsey players before cutting the ball back to Simpson but last ditched defending saw his attempt well blocked.
Simpson and Nathan Cooper both saw headed attempts go wide of the mark before Akehurst again tested Stanton but he held on low down to his right.
Again Laing saw an effort from distance saved and then Melford Simpson did well to create some space before his effort was well saved by the feet of Stanton.
Heath finally beat Stanton when Sean Roddy's brilliant ball in was just right for Alex Laing but his volley hit the outside of the post and the loose ball just out of reach from the arriving Josh Spinks.
Heath continued to be frustrated in front of goal and Guernsey finished the half strong with a freekick hitting the defending wall and the resulting corner being headed over the bar.
Half Time Heath 0-0 Guernsey
The two sides level at the break it was the visitors who took advantage in the 49th minute when Heath didn’t defend a corner and defender Tom Dodds fired in from close range.
Heath looked to repond and Karly Akehurst again found Stanton in the way as his header was held, the afternoon could have been summed up on 52 minutes as Callum Saunders almost got Heath back on level terms but somehow crashed the ball against the crossbar from 4 yards out!
Another top save from Stanton denied Nathan Cooper on 63 minutes and then with 70 played Callum Saunders received the ball in space but snatched at his chance and the ball dragged across goal.
The miss was to prove costly as the visitors then doubled the lead on 72 minutes and it was a great strike from 20 yards from Tom Dodds that beat Josh Heyburn for his second of the afternoon.
Heath would not lie down but another fantastic tip over by Stanton denied Karly Akehurst with time running out.
Heath were awarded a penalty on 84 minutes for handball that Callum Saunders converted but it turned out to be just a consolation and Heath again dropped 3 points at home.
