Simpson & Saunders at the Double
By Stuart Morgan
Heath continued their impressive away form as both Melford Simpson & Callum Saunders made sure the points returned to Hanbury
Heath have now managed to lose just the once on the road this season as they came away from Phoenix Sports with all three points.
After last weeks late winner Tom Graves made his first start since lifting the league and cup double last season, Melford Simpson returned to lead the line with Trevor McCreadie rotating to the bench.
An early tone was set as both sides escaped what many thought should have been yellow cards in the first 5 minutes, the resulting free kick for Heath saw Sean Roddy's effort blocked by the wall, Phoenix Sports looked bright going forwards and their direct play was keeping the Heath players on their toes and with 9 minutes played Josh Heyburn had to be alert as the Phoenix Sports front man found some space but the tight angle was well saved with Heyburn's feet.
The deadlock was broken much to the delight of the home crowd (and Simo holding golden goal ticket) on 12 minutes as Jeff Duah-Kessie peeled off his marker and headed in at the far post.
Phoenix Sports 1-0 Heath
It was a short lived lead as less than two minutes later Alex Laing picked up the ball on the left and sent in a great cross that Melford Simpson was brave to get his head to as defender and keeper challenged for it to no avail as the ball found its way in.
Phoenix Sports 1-1 Heath
It was a match that was swinging both ways with Josh Heyburn coming to the Heath rescue again when Phoenix Sports broke through one on one and Heyburn made a great point blank save, this then spur'ed Heath on ad a ball down field found Alex Laing who headed into the path of Callum Saunders who made no mistake firing in from a tight angle giving the keeper no chance.
Phoenix Sports 1-2 Heath
Heath then upped the pressure with the better chances for the remainder of the half, Callum Saunders flashed the ball narrowly wide from a well struck free kick, Alex Laing then tried his luck from range as he cut in from the left but his effort cleared the bar.
Heath saw a strong penalty claim waved away much to the frustration of the bench.
With 5 minutes remaining both sides were frustrated by the woodwork, first Andrew Dalhouse made some space in a tight area turning and shooting but the outside of the post came to the hosts rescue with the keeper rooted, then a minute before the break Phoenix Sports again cut Heath open but although the Phoenix Sports striker went round Heyburn his effort from an angle came off the far post and back into Heyburn's arms.
Half Time - Phoenix Sports 1-2 Heath
The second half lived up to the first with plenty of action and almost straight away Alex Laing tested the Phoenix Sports keeper stinging his gloves with a brilliant volley after being found by Kane Louis. Phoenix Sports responded well and two efforts from from distance needed well timed blocks for the expense of a couple of corners. The second corner saw a Phoenix Sports player go over in the box under pressure of Tom Graves but for the second time in the game a strong penalty appeal was waved away.
Efforts from distance from both sides didn't trouble either keeper before Heath opened up their advantage through Callum Saunders, again Alex Laing found Saunders and he fired with power past the keeper.
Phoenix Sports 1-3 Heath
Just 3 minutes later it was another goal for the away support to cheer as Kane Louis did brilliantly to dig out a cross the Melford Simpson had time to chest down and smash past the Phoenix Sports keeper.
Phoenix Sports 1-4 Heath
Josh Spinks who has started every match for Heath so far this season made way for Tyrese Gray-Branford and the youngster slotted in brilliantly for the remaining 15 minutes, but the scoring wasn't over as with 12 minutes remaining the ball fell to Jeff Duah-Kessie and from 18 yards out curled the ball with power past the un-sighted Heyburn into the far corner.
Phoenix Sports 2-4 Heath
As Heath looked to manage the game to a finish all the chances fell to the visitors, Laing tried an audacious long rang chip that cleared the cross bar before being replaced by Omar Folkes, Nathan Cooper headed over from an incoming Saunders corner, Saunders then saw an effort easily gathered before in added on time substitute Trevor McCreadie went on a mazy run that saw his effort on target deflected out for the expense of a corner.
