A Point Closer to the Playoffs
By Stuart Morgan
Heath pick up a valuable point away at Ramsgate as they are now just one win away from securing the final play off place.
Heath made their longest trip of the season as they traveled to Ramsgate on a glorious April afternoon and after 90 minutes it was as you were as the points were shared but it was a match that certainly could have swung either way with Ant Ender making several fine stops and the Ramsgate goal surviving by an Inch as Kenny Pogue went closest to breaking the deadlock in the second half.
The opening 10 minutes saw both sides adjust to the hard flat surface with no goal mouth action, Ramsgate seem to play well on the counter throughout the match where as Heath's best opportunities often came from free kicks into the box as the hosts racked up the foul count.
George Crimmen forced Ant Ender to make an outstanding save in the 25th minute. Rory Smith delivered a great ball into the box from a corner and Crimmen jumped the highest to head a powerful effort in the top right of the goal, but Ender somehow managed to get across and make the save.
Heath had the best chance of the game in the 31st minute, and they will be wondering how they didn’t score. Alex Laing struck the bar with a effort inside the box, and the ball fell directly to Nathan Cooper who’s powerful effort was fortunately kept out by Luke Watkins before being called to action once again, making an outstanding save down low from Karly Akehurst on the rebound.
Ramsgate had a great chance on 37 minutes but Smith wasted his effort blasting over when well placed.
No more action in the half troubled either keeper as the sides went in level at half time.
Half Time Ramsgate 0-0 Heath
The second half saw both sides begin with efforts that did't trouble either keeper, both defences playing well and keeping efforts from distance.
Just before the hour Ramsgate's Tom Chapman had a great effort brilliantly saved by Ant Ender, It was then Ender again to the Heath rescue as the Ramsgate player broke free but Ender was off his line quickly to block the effort with his feet.
It was fine margins that can be the decider in closely fought games and on 75 minutes Trevor McCreadie found Kenny Pogue who's first touch took him past the last defender, he then rounded the keeper and sent the ball goalwards, lady luck was on the hosts side as the ball came off the inside of the post rolled along the goal line before hitting the other post and finally cleared off the line by George Crimmens.
The match then petered out for a share of the spoils that was about right on the day.
Full Time - Ramsgate 0-0 Heath
