A Jamie Weston double ensured Haywards Heath emerged from the Easter weekend with the maximum six points after a 2-0 victory over Hassocks.

A healthy crowd at the Beacon enjoyed an open game of football in the early bank holiday kick-off as Haywards Heath ensured they took maximum points from the Easter weekend with a 2-0 win against Hassocks.

It was former Robins' player Jamie Weston who scored in either half to keep Heath at the SCFL summit with a one point lead over second place Shoreham with just two league fixtures remaining.

The deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute when captain Naz Rouane floated the ball into the box from a central position, Melford Simpson headed the ball down into the path of the on-rushing Weston who poked the ball just under the crossbar, with goalkeeper James Broadbent very unfortunate not to be to able to keep it out.

The Wizard's second goal came in the 64th minute as Max Miller held the ball up well with his back to goal, before laying the ball off to Weston - who placed the ball into the bottom right corner.

Hassocks will be ruing how they squandered many chances themselves, and were unlucky not to have gone into the break level after they rattled the bar with a header.

The Robins' also started the second half the stronger team and had the ball in number of dangerous positions, but again they failed to trouble Simon Lehkyj in the Heath goal.

Much like the Eastbourne town game, Heath took control for the final half an hour and had a number of opportunities to extend their lead, but like Hassocks, they just weren't clinical enough today.

Man Of The Match - Jamie Weston
The Wizard came up with both goals and was a constant attacking threat all game.

Post-Match Reaction From Manager Shaun Saunders

Hassocks were very organised today and contested every ball, they made it very difficult for us, but it's one I'm pleased to overcome, that's for sure.

Jamie Weston is a bit of an unsung hero for us, he's a proper good player and I'm very pleased for him today, he's a top lad - and this being his ex-club too, it's always nice to score against them.

We've now got two cup finals to play, starting with Loxwood - they're another good side in good form, so again, we'll need to be on the top of our game to get the points on Saturday.

I'm expecting us to now give it everything we've got for the final two games and we'll see what happens.

With two games to go I'm happy to be the hunted now. All season we've chased and I've always said to keep in touch with the pack at the front - which we have done - and it's the right time to be in front now and it's about dealing with the pressures, and I'm really pleased about where we are, we'll be okay.
